It starts with the right seed. In our case, the disease resistant natural triploid from brood stock bred at the Virginia Institute for Marine Sciences (VIMS). We opened our hatchery in 2017 to produce our own seed – and to help meet the growing demand for seed by ‘oysterpreneurs.’ As the only commercial oyster hatchery in Maryland, we produce high quality larvae and seed ranging from 1 mm – 24 mm for commercial aquaculture farms and oyster gardeners.

We’re proud to be a company founded on our love for the Chesapeake Bay and the species that call it home, the most important of which is the oyster. From the hatchery to the farm, we produce oysters of all sizes for a variety of applications including restoration and aquaculture production within our company and others. We harvest and sell our premium oysters under the Chesapeake Gold, Holy Grail and Mermaid brand names.

Oyster aquaculture on a commercial scale would not be possible without the infrastructure to support its growth. All of the equipment that we design and use on our own oyster farms, we also manufacture and sell to other growers across the world. In addition, we are a top U.S. distributor for Australia’s Hexcyl Longline Systems, which are also used by Hoopers Island.
