As every person, family and business faces coronavirus hurdles and hardships, we wanted you to know that we are open to serve our community today – and in better times when ‘normal’ operations resume. Like many farmers and producers who plant, sow and harvest our food, we – along with our fellow oyster growers – continue to tend to our sustainably-raised shellfish.
Our hatchery will have its first spawn of the 2020 season next week. The oysters pictured here have been “conditioning” for eight weeks; they’re packed with gametes and are ready to make larvae.
We’re also monitoring potential agency closures that could impact interstate seed sales. We will be in contact with all of our seed customers should anything change and will help address your questions … or serve as a sounding board.
To help farmers facing reduced revenues, we’ll offer incentives on select grow-out and processing gear. Equipment and new prices will be posted on our website and social media based on inventory.
Lastly, since many of our customers have asked, we will soon make our Chesapeake Gold oysters available for online ordering and overnight shipping. We also plan to have shucked pints and half-shells at Emily’s Produce when they open for the season just outside Cambridge, Maryland.
On behalf of each of us, stay well. Stay in touch. And steady yourself with a firm anchor and belief in calmer waters ahead.
