Limited Edition Collectible features Yellow Lab on “Oyster Watch”
Hoopers Island Oyster Co. today unveiled “Oyster Watch,” our 5th edition Chesapeake Heritage Oyster Tin. Collectors can now place their orders online. We anticipate delivery of this year’s limited edition tins in November.
Artist Mona Pennypacker was commissioned to create the original watercolor for the 2021 Chesapeake Heritage Oyster Tin. The design features an illustration of Baylor – a yellow lab lovingly owned by hatchery technician Allison Fitzhugh – as the dog surveys the company’s Crocheron, Maryland nursery.
Hoopers Island Oysters is proud to once again offer a unique design showcasing our pristine Dorchester County location and flagship oyster brand. Whether you love oysters, dogs, or the Chesapeake, it’s a beautiful work of art and a great expression of Eastern Shore culture.” Ricky Fitzhugh, Managing Partner
The 2021 design features hues of yellow highlighting Hoopers’ “Chesapeake Gold” oysters and Baylor’s straw-colored coat. The image is surrounded by soft shades of green and blue illustrating the landscape’s marshes and open waterways.
Baywater Animal Rescue to Receive Donation from Heritage Tin Sales
Senior VP Chris Wyer, who created the heritage tin program in 2017, said that Hoopers will make a donation to Baywater Animal Rescue — a no-kill animal welfare organization — for every tin sold.
Baywater Animal Rescue opened its doors as the Animal Welfare League of Dorchester County in 1947. It is the Humane Society of Dorchester County and the leading no-kill animal welfare organization on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, helping people and homeless animals for over 70 years.
We are proud that Hooper’s Island Oyster Co. chose to honor our organization with their 2021 commemorative oyster tins. Being recognized for our work throughout the MidShore means a great deal to us.” Tom Divilio, Board President
Maryland-Based Independent Can Selected to Fabricate Heritage Tins
For the fifth year running, the oyster tins will be fabricated by Maryland’s Independent Can Company. Founded in 1929, Independent Can is a world leader in manufacturing specialty metal packaging and metal lithography.
Independent Can Company would not be in business today without the seafood industry and the hard-working watermen we supported from the 1930s through the middle 1980s. Seafood was 80+% of our business as late as the middle 1970s. The Chesapeake Bay has provided my family and thousands of businesses a livelihood unlike anywhere else in the United States.” Rick Huether, President & CEO
Advance Purchase Encouraged
The 2021 tins are $30 and will be available for pick up from Hooper’s Cambridge facility in November. To order in advance and select shipping or pick up options, visit our online shop here.
