Frequently Asked Questions
Hoopers Island Oyster Co. ships all purchases through FedEx. Oysters are sent via FedEx Next Business Day Delivery for Wednesday, Thursday or Friday receipt. Merchandise (shucking gear, apparel, etc.) are sent by FedEx Ground and delivered in 1 to 7 business days. If you order both oysters and merchandise, they will be packaged together for overnight delivery. Please note our rates do not include weekend or holiday receipt.
Can I order oysters for advance delivery?
Absolutely! Place your order online at least 48 hours in advance and let us know which date (select a Wednesday, Thursday or Friday) you would like them delivered.
How will the oysters arrive?
We package all oysters – shelled and shucked pints – in an insulated box with FDA compliant cold packs to maintain optimal temperatures during shipping.
How long can we store our oysters before enjoying them?
You can store unopened pints in the refrigerator for up to 21 days. Oysters in the shell can be kept in the fridge for 10-14 days at 40℃. Oysters can also be kept in a cooler on ice. Replenish with fresh ice as needed and make sure the drain is open so the oysters aren’t in standing water. Do not consume any oysters if the shell has opened.
How should I store live oysters?
Place your oysters cup-side down in a glass bowl.
Can my oysters be left outside if no one is home when they’re delivered?
Hoopers Island Oysters are shipped with gel packs in insulated containers and should remain cool for a few hours after delivery, depending on the time of year. We do recommend that someone be home to receive your fresh oysters when they’re delivered.
How will I know if my order went through?
You will receive a confirmation once your payment processes. Once your order ships, we will email you a FedEx tracking number.
Can I ship items to different addresses within the same order?
If you’d like to have oysters or merchandise shipped to multiple locations, please place a separate order for each address.
What is your return and exchange policy?
Merchandise can be returned, unused for an exchange or refund. Once received, we’ll issue a credit to your charge card or payment account.
